Live music is at the very foundation of the city of Austin. At any given date or time, if you find yourself wandering the streets of downtown, you’ll be followed by the melody of a street musician. Many of these musicians dive head first into their craft, doing everything in their power to make music their full-time job. As self-employed individuals, these musicians do not have access to group health insurance through an employer, and most are unable to afford independent healthcare, with average independent plans costing around $350. The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) aims to change that.
