Exploring Austin in Celebration of National Park Week

In central Texas, there is no shortage of beautiful scenery. There are dozens of landscapes to get lost in with your furry friend, your best friend, or your whole family! National Park Week is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the beautiful April weather and get out to explore some new trails.

Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park

Spanning nearly 300 acres, this public north Austin park is equipped with hiking trails, off-leash dog areas, a swimming pool, playgrounds, picnic areas with barbeque pits and baseball fields. With so many areas to explore and a variety of activities to enjoy, this is the perfect spot for a full day of family fun.

Zilker Metropolitan Park

2100 Barton Springs Rd., Austin, TX 78704

Dubbed as “Austin’s most-loved park”, this central Austin park has a ton of outdoor activities including five volleyball courts, the natural spring-fed Barton Springs Pool, Zilker Botanical Gardens, a disc golf course, Zilker Playscape, and acres of open spaces for your dogs and little ones to run free. You might even be able to catch a live performance or two at the Zilker Hillside Theatre.

Bull Creek District Park

If you’re looking for some great hiking trails with views of natural water sources, Bull Creek is the place to go. You’ll encounter scenic cliffs, waterfalls, limestone seeps and more. If you’re ready to take a break, check out the fishing pier or natural swimming area! The sport-fans in the bunch can head to the basketball courts or volleyball courts for some friendly competition.

Ratan Creek Park

Elkhorn Mountain Trail & Tamayo Dr, Austin, TX 78729

This park was made for the active crowd! Fully equipped with a junior Olympic swimming pool, four tennis courts, a basketball court, a sand volleyball court, and a soccer field, there’s more than enough room for some friendly competition. Ratan Creek also houses a variety of playscapes for all ages – yes, even adults!
